BOSTON, MA, October 22, 2001-State Street Research & Management Company is
proud to participate in City Year Boston's Serve-a-thon for the first time
since the event began in 1988. The event is scheduled for October 27, 2001,
and State Street Research is one of several key corporate supporters to
engage employees in this powerful day of community service and outreach.
The State Street Research Team is assigned to the Roxbury Community Garden
and will participate in a high-impact project leveraging partnerships with
the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative and local Roxbury schools. State
Street Research volunteers will beautify the surroundings through various
painting and gardening projects and lay the foundation for community flower
and vegetable gardens for next spring, in vacant lots.
"State Street Research is proud to be a part of City Year Boston's
Serve-a-thon event. We believe in active corporate citizenship and community
leadership and have developed a legacy of giving back to the community for
the last 77 years. Employee volunteerism improves the lives of our customers
and our employees and strengthens the communities in which we have a
business presence. City Year provides us with a tremendous opportunity to
demonstrate our commitment to Boston." stated Dick Davis, President and
Chief Executive Officer. Davis will join fellow colleagues at the site.
This day long widely recognized local event unites thousands of people in
performing community service projects throughout Greater Boston. Each
project meets a critical community need and each pledge helps reach
fundraising goals to support the 2001-2002 City Year Boston corps as they
mentor children in Boston's elementary schools, after school programs, teach
HIV/AIDS and domestic violence prevention and run vacation week camps for
children.
