STATE STREET RESEARCH ADDS SMALL CAP GROWTH PORTFOLIO TO SEPARATE ACCOUNTS OFFERINGS
BOSTON, MA, March 13, 2001- State Street Research Private Client Group has
added a Small Cap Growth portfolio to complement its roster of investment
choices for individually managed accounts. Currently, State Street Research
Private Client Group offers five investment styles-International ADR, Mid
Cap Value, Large Cap Core - Tax Aware, Large Cap Growth and Total Return
Municipal Bond.
The Small Cap Growth portfolio, managed by Tucker Walsh, Portfolio Manager
and Head of the Small Cap Growth Team, focuses its investments on smaller
companies in an early stage of development when growth potential is much
greater. Currently, the portfolio is diversified across industry and market
sectors with positions in healthcare, energy and technology stocks among
others. Due to its aggressive investment style and volatility, the
portfolio may be more appropriate for investors with long-term investment
goals and those who can accept the higher risk involved with investing in
small company stocks.
"The addition of Small Cap Growth provides an additional style for the
advisors with whom we work and a diversification opportunity for clients,"
said Amy Barnwell, Senior Vice President, National Sales Manager
Intermediary Sales for Private Client Group. "The Small Cap Growth
portfolio complements our already diversified private account offerings by
providing another vehicle designed for long-term investing."
Founded in 1997, State Street Research Private Client Group integrates its
efforts with intermediaries through separate account platforms including
Lockwood, Brinker Capital and Investment Consulting Group. Each investment
style employs the same proprietary research capabilities and multiple
investment disciplines as the firm's large institutional clients.
State Street Research & Management Company, with a money management history
dating back to 1924, is one of the nation's first investment management

which $34 billion represented institutional clients and $19 billion
