STATE STREET RESEARCH PRIVATE CLIENT GROUP NAMES ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE



BOSTON, MA, March 2, 2000-State Street Research announced today that Jonathan Wales has joined the firm as Account Executive, Private Client Group. The announcement was made by Amy Barnwell, Senior Vice President, National Sales Manager of Intermediary Sales for the Private Client Group. Wales will be responsible for introducing State Street Research's investment capabilities to Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) using separate account platforms such as Lockwood Financial, Brinker Capital and Investment Consulting Group (ICG).

"Jon's experience in consultative sales, as well as his work in the advisor channel, will be a tremendous asset to the Private Client Group as we expand the sales force," stated Barnwell in the announcement.

Wales joins State Street Research after spending over three years at Putnam Investments most recently as a Senior Insurance Products Internal Wholesaler. He joined Putnam Investments in 1997 as a National Sales Desk Representative and rose to Inside Wholesaler in 1998. Prior to Putnam, Wales was at Scudder, Stevens and Clark, Inc. in Boston where he was a Mutual Fund Administrator with a focus on Corporate Governance. Wales has a B.A. from Connecticut College.

State Street Research & Management Company, with a money management history dating back to 1924, is one of the nation's first investment management organizations. The Boston-based firm is a subsidiary of MetLife. As of January 31, 2001, State Street Research managed $53 billion in assets, of which $34 billion represented institutional clients and $19 billion represented mutual fund and variable annuity portfolios.
